Business Leaders Call for Fair, Secure Elections and Respect for the Certification Process

Over 80 Leading Business Voices From Across the Country Issue Statement Ahead of the 2026 Midterm Elections

WASHINGTON D.C.
– Today, dozens of the country’s leading business organizations and business leaders, spearheaded by the Business & Democracy Initiative, Black Economic Alliance and Small Business for America’s Future, issued the following statement calling for a fair and secure election process as the 2026 midterm elections approach.

Launching off recent research from Scott Miller around the economic imperative of
capitalism and democracy, this joint statement echoes calls from other leaders to safeguard election integrity, including philanthropic leader Heather Gerkin and former U.S. Treasury Secretary Bob Rubin, The Conference Board CEO Center, and local leaders like U.S. Conference of Mayors President and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and former North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory.

As business leaders, we are committed to free, fair, and secure elections, the fundamental right of every eligible American to vote, and a transparent and lawful election certification process.

A strong economy depends on strong public institutions. Protecting the legitimacy of our elections, respecting the Constitution and rule of law without interference or intimidation, as well as maintaining confidence in the democratic process are shared responsibilities that serve the interests of us all.

Election legitimacy is not only a civic priority, it is an economic imperative. The strength of the American economy rests on these principles, which create the stable environment businesses need to grow, invest, and plan for the future.

As business leaders, we recognize our responsibility to reinforce trust in the institutions that support both our democracy and our economy. We stand behind the right to fair and secure elections, and we affirm the importance of allowing election officials to complete the counting, verification, and certification of results without interference.

We call for transparency and patience during the certification process in every state following the 2026 midterm elections, with every eligible vote counted and results certified in accordance with the rule of law.

Here’s what business voices across the country are saying:

State Business Leaders on Democracy and the Economy

Arizona

Rob Elias, President & CEO,
Southern Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce: "The Southern Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce believes in the strength of our communities, the promise of our democracy, and the shared responsibility we have to uphold both. As the election certification process moves forward, we encourage a patient, transparent process that honors every eligible vote and respects the rule of law. Our state and our nation are strongest when we lead with respect, uphold our democratic values, and remain united in our commitment to a better future for all."

John Fees
, Co-Founder and CEO, GradGuard, and Co-Chair, Leadership Now Arizona: “Elections don’t end when the polls close, and in Arizona, we know that counting every eligible vote takes time. Candidates have an enormous responsibility to set the tone for what happens next. That means giving election officials the time and space to do their jobs, rejecting speculation and unsubstantiated claims, and reminding voters that a careful, lawful process is more important than a rushed result.”

Gabe Hagen, Founder & CEO,
Brick Road Community Corporation: “Every small business owner knows you win some and lose some. When we lose a bid, we don’t call the process rigged or refuse to accept the outcome. We shake hands, learn from the experience, and compete for the next opportunity because a fair process we trust matters more than any single result.

Elections work the same way. Safe, secure voting and orderly, timely certification of results allow businesses to plan, hire, and invest with confidence, regardless of who wins. Business owners are often told to stay out of politics, but this isn’t about politics. It’s about the rules of the game, and every business depends on them.”

Kimber Lanning, CEO & Founder,
Local First Arizona: “As the largest coalition of locally owned businesses in the country, Local First Arizona believes that a strong economy depends on stable communities and public confidence in our democratic institutions. As the election certification process unfolds, we encourage civic and business leaders to support a patient, transparent process that ensures every eligible vote is counted and the results are certified in accordance with the law.”

Andrew Rodriguez, Executive Director,
Eloy Chamber of Commerce: “The Eloy Chamber of Commerce believes that a strong economy depends on stable communities and public confidence in our democratic institutions. As the election certification process unfolds, we encourage civic and business leaders to support a patient, transparent process that ensures every eligible vote is counted and the results are certified in accordance with the law.”

Dr. Velma Trayham, President & CEO,
Black Chamber of Arizona: “Small-business owners work every day to build something lasting—for their families, their employees, and their communities. That work depends on institutions they can trust. Safe, secure elections, respect for the rule of law, and timely certification of results in accordance with established laws and procedures strengthen the confidence our economy needs. Business leaders across the political spectrum have a responsibility to uphold these shared principles and support every eligible voter’s opportunity to be heard.”

Monica Villalobos, President & CEO,
The Arizona Hispanic Chamber: “Business confidence and public confidence are closely connected. When people trust the institutions that serve them, they are better positioned to participate in their communities, invest in their futures, and contribute to a strong economy. That's why accurate information, access, and transparency throughout the election process matter. Every eligible voter has a right to a fair and secure election, and our communities deserve confidence that votes will be counted and results certified according to the law. As business leaders, we recognize that protecting institutional trust is essential to long-term economic stability and we have that trust in the Arizona election process. We are a national model for ensuring safe early voting and work diligently to ensure access to voting locations on Election Day. We thank and encourage our election officials to protect these conditions for voters and encourage all qualified voters to participate and vote on the candidates and issues that deeply impact our shared future.”

Michele White, Executive Director, Greater Phoenix Equality Chamber of Commerce:
“Confidence in our elections is essential to a strong democracy and a strong Arizona. As the state moves through canvass and certification, the Greater Phoenix Equality Chamber of Commerce ask our members and neighbors across the state to remain patient, rely on official sources for accurate information, and thank the election officials and poll workers who have worked to make every eligible vote count. A patient, transparent process protects public trust, and that trust supports the diverse businesses and communities we serve together.”

California

Julian Cañete, President & CEO,
California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce: “The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce believes that a strong economy depends on stable communities and public confidence in our democratic institutions. As the election certification process unfolds, we encourage civic and business leaders to support a patient, transparent process that ensures every eligible vote is counted and the results are certified in accordance with the law.”

Steve Dial, CEO,
AnewAmerica: “AnewAmerica Community Corporation believes that a strong, vibrant and inclusive economy depends upon strong democratic institutions governed by the rule of law.  These institutions, built on the foundation of the Constitution, have made the U.S. a powerhouse in the global economy.  Therefore, we encourage all business and civic leaders to support the election process – making sure all eligible votes are counted, the rule of law respected and the patient execution of free and fair elections.  We also ask that elected officials live up to their duty to uphold and defend the rights of citizens and remember that their power, as the Constitution states, comes from “We the People.”

Bulbul Gupta, President & CEO,
Pacific Community Ventures: “Pacific Community Ventures believes that a strong economy depends on business and public confidence in our democratic institutions. As the election certification process unfolds, we encourage civic and business leaders to support a patient, transparent process that ensures every eligible vote is counted and the results are certified in accordance with the law.”

Dennis Huang, Executive Director & CEO,
Asian Business Association: "Economic prosperity and entrepreneurial success require stability, certainty, and public trust. The Asian Business Association calls on civic and business leaders to support a safe, transparent, and patient election certification process, ensuring every eligible vote is counted and our economy remains grounded in strong democratic institutions.”

Carolina Martinez, President & CEO,
California Association for Microenterprise Opportunity (CAMEO) Network: “Across the nation, a safe and accessible midterm election process is vital for sustaining the democracy that allows our businesses to thrive. Entrepreneurs rely on a stable and transparent system to plan, grow, and contribute to their communities. Protecting this cornerstone of our democracy ensures that all small businesses—especially our vibrant micro-businesses—can continue to innovate and succeed, building a resilient economy that reflects the voices and needs of every entrepreneur."

Sharon Miller, CEO,
Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center: "Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center believes that a strong economy depends on public confidence in our democratic institutions and stability in our communities. As the election certification process unfolds, we encourage civic and business leaders to support a patient, transparent process that ensures every eligible vote is counted and the results are certified in accordance with the law.”

Michaela Joy O'Shea, Founder & CEO,
Michaela Joy Photography: "As a small business owner, I see how much people rely on trust and stability to plan for the future. Safe, secure elections and a patient, transparent process help build confidence in our communities and in the institutions we all depend on. Every eligible vote deserves to be counted, and the results should be certified according to the law.”

Martin Ricard, CEO,
Community Symbol: “As business owners, we hold a lot of power in our communities. Not just because we make money or create jobs, but because we have the freedom to take risks, solve problems, and imagine new ways of doing things. That gives us a unique perspective on how our society could work better for everyone. But let's not get it twisted. None of us made it in America completely on our own. We all benefit from public investments, the people and communities who support us, and a government that's supposed to work for the people. And none of that works without safe, secure, and fair elections where every eligible voter can make their voice heard and every vote is counted. When our democracy is threatened, it's not just bad for business. It's bad for our families, our communities, and the freedoms generations before us fought to secure. So let's put our power to good use this Election Day. If nothing else, let's remember that our responsibility as business owners doesn't end with our bottom line. We have a stake in the kind of country we're building and a responsibility to make sure everyone has a voice in shaping its future.”

Georgia

Terri Bradley, Founder & CEO,
Brown Toy Box: “Every vote must be counted, and every voice must be heard. Businesses depend on stability and public confidence to invest, hire, and grow. A patient, transparent election certification process that respects the will of voters and upholds the law is essential to protecting both our democracy and our economy.”

Jeannell Darden, President & CEO,
ML1 Inc.: “The future of our ability to sustain and grow our small businesses depends on our voices being heard. Safe and secure elections are essential because the decisions made by those elected to office directly affect our livelihoods, our communities, and the customers we serve. As small business owners, we depend on stability and confidence, not only to keep our doors open, but to ensure our customers feel secure in their own financial futures and can continue supporting local businesses. Protecting the integrity of our elections means protecting the future of our businesses.”

Katrina Golden, Founder & CEO,
Lil Mama's Sweets & Treats: “As a small business owner, I can tell you that uncertainty isn't just something we hear about on the news. It's something we feel when we're making payroll, purchasing inventory, planning an expansion, or deciding whether we can afford to hire another employee. At Lil Mama's Sweets & Treats, we've worked hard to build something that serves our community, creates jobs, and contributes to our local economy. But businesses like ours need stability and confidence in the systems that allow us to grow.

Regardless of political affiliation, every eligible vote deserves to be counted, and the election certification process should be patient, transparent, and conducted according to the law. When our democratic institutions are strong and trusted, our communities and businesses are better positioned to thrive. Small business owners already have enough uncertainty to navigate. Confidence in our democracy shouldn't have to be another one.”

Devotis Lee, Founder & CEO,
D Cafe Atlanta: “As a small business owner in Georgia, it’s imperative that we have a safe and secure election. We need to make sure that we actually protect democracy. We should not have a problem with the election regardless of who you’re voting for. The election needs to follow all the policies and procedures that are put in place by the Secretary of State in each state. It is imperative that we have a safe, secure election, and that we protect democracy.”

Sherolyn Sellers, Board Chair, Atlanta Black Chamber,
Atlanta Black Chamber of Commerce: "For Black-owned businesses across Metro Atlanta, elections and a stable democracy are essential to fostering a predictable and thriving regional economy. As business leaders, we recognize that safe and secure midterm elections allow our entrepreneurs to invest in their economic futures and build generational wealth with confidence. Democracy is the bedrock of economic opportunity, and a commitment by business leaders to advocate for safe elections bolsters public trust and ensures economic stability for all."

Michigan

Rumia Ambrose-Burbank, President,
Vendor Managed Solutions Inc.: "I grew up as a young Black girl on the east side of Detroit, without many professional role models who looked like me. I became a young mother, worked my way through school, and eventually built a successful business. My journey is a testament to the promise of the American Dream, that where you start in life doesn’t have to determine where you finish.

But that promise depends on a strong democracy, the rule of law, and safe, secure, and trustworthy elections. As a business owner, I know that economic opportunity and stability are strengthened when our democratic institutions are protected, every vote is counted, and election results are respected and certified in accordance with the law. I believe in protecting that promise, not just for myself, but for the next young girl growing up on Detroit’s east side who deserves the opportunity to dream even bigger than I did.”

Kevin Heard, Board President,
Detroit LGBT Chamber of Commerce: "Small businesses rely on stable institutions, predictable processes, and public trust to operate and grow. Reliable and secure elections are foundational to the economic confidence and stability of our local business community. We encourage all voters, business owners and their customers to stay well-informed about candidates and understand how their policies directly impact the overall well-being of their local area and our country."

Ron Kurnik, President & Owner,
Superior Coffee Roasting Co., Inc.: “The United States has long fostered an environment of opportunity and stability for creative entrepreneurs and small businesses to thrive and succeed.  The same environment of opportunity and stability must hold true in our political environment as well, because the two are inextricably dependent upon one another.   The opportunity for all citizens to participate in a safe and secure democracy, where the constitutional governing bodies are entrusted to provide stability, is the foundation for growth and success in small businesses.  Instability does not foster confidence, and confidence is what built America.”

Tenicia Moulden, Esq., President, National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Greater Detroit Chapter:
“Women business owners plan years ahead. We sign leases, hire teams, and invest in our communities because we're confident the rules will hold. Safe, secure elections and an orderly certification process are part of that foundation. NAWBO Greater Detroit encourages business and civic leaders to support a patient, transparent process where every eligible vote is counted, and results are certified in accordance with the law.”

Troy Morris, Co-Founder & CEO,
KMI Space: “The election of our government is a fundamental cornerstone of our country, influencing the economies of our businesses, the ecosystems of our communities, and the future of our families. As a small business, we support every one of our employees in taking the opportunity to vote in every election, with many of our management and staff volunteering in the actual administration of this election as poll workers. I expect civil, national security, and commercial leaders to support a patient, trusted, and transparent process through certification and acceptance of this election.”

Sue Schweim Tellier, President and Owner & Board Chair,
JetCo Federal, Women Impacting Public Policy: “A stable democracy is the foundation on which women-owned businesses build. When people trust our elections, women entrepreneurs have a reliable environment where they can grow, plan for the future, and invest in their communities. As Michigan heads into this midterm election, I’m asking fellow business owners and neighbors across the state to make their voices heard at the ballot box, turn to official sources for accurate information, and stay patient while every eligible vote is counted. And let’s thank the election officials and poll workers who work so hard to make that happen. A patient, transparent process protects public trust, and that trust allows women business owners, in Michigan and across the country, to keep building.”

"As a grocery store owner in Minnesota, I see how much our communities depend on trust. Our customers count on us, our employees count on us, and we count on a stable environment to keep our doors open and plan for the future. That same trust matters in our elections. Every eligible voter deserves to participate safely, have their vote counted accurately, and know that the results will be certified according to the law. Regardless of political affiliation, respecting that process helps keep our communities strong and our businesses moving forward.”

Rebecca Waggoner, Executive Director,
Twin Cities Quorum: “At Quorum, we believe strong businesses, thriving communities, and a healthy democracy go hand in hand. From small businesses on Main Street to Minnesota's largest employers, economic prosperity depends on stability, public trust, and institutions that serve everyone fairly. As Minnesota's LGBTQ+ and Allied Chamber of Commerce, we recognize that every voice matters and that our responsibility as business leaders extends beyond our workplaces to the communities we serve. We know that confidence in our democratic process is essential to building an inclusive and resilient economy. We call on business and civic leaders to support safe and secure elections, free from interference, where every eligible vote is counted and election results are certified through a patient, transparent, and orderly process in accordance with the law. Their continued success depends on a stable environment and public institutions that earn the confidence of the people they serve. Fair and secure elections are fundamental to that foundation. Strong institutions and a strong economy go hand in hand.”

Shaundell Newsome, Co-chair,

It shapes whether people spend money, whether businesses hire, and whether entrepreneurs take the risks necessary to grow. Our economy works best when people can trust the institutions that underpin it. That includes the right to participate in fair and secure elections and confidence that the results will be verified and certified according to the law. Free and fair elections are the mechanism through which every eligible voter can secure the policies, investments, and accountability that determine whether work pays, wages rise, and wealth is built. Any weakening of election protections or erosion of the American people's trust in our democracy and the democratic process is a loss for every market, every employer, and every community.”
