For the Sake of our Democracy and Economy, Congress Must Swiftly Certify the Election 

Statement by Renée Johnson, Small Business for America’s Future Senior Advisor

Washington, D.C., Jan. 4, 2021—A national survey of more than 1,000 small business owners performed in November following the presidential election found 73% believe President Trump should participate in a peaceful transition of power. The president’s blatant attempts to undermine the will of the voters, along with the shameful complicity of GOP elected officials planning to challenge the Electoral College count this week, is damaging to our democracy and the stability our economy needs to recover. 

The Trump Administration’s botched and incompetent handling of the pandemic and economic relief efforts has already made the road to recovery much longer than it should be. Suffering small business owners and ordinary Americans do not need another crisis that assaults our democracy and further destabilizes our country.

Joe Biden was democratically elected. President Trump must step aside so the country can move on to what’s most important: recovering from a once-in-a-generation health and economic crisis and rebuilding faith in our democratic institutions.
