Small Business for America’s Future Co-Chair Erika Gonzalez Appointed to President Biden’s Committee on the National Medal of Science

Dr. Gonzalez, CEO & President of both South Texas Allergy & Asthma Medical Professionals (STAAMP) and STAAMP Clinical Research in San Antonio, joins committee that evaluates nominees for the nation’s highest scientific honor

Washington, D.C., March 25, 2022—Small Business for America’s Future Co-Chair Dr. Erika Gonzalez has been appointed to serve as a member of President Biden’s Committee on the National Medal of Science, which evaluates nominees for the nation’s highest scientific honor.

“I am humbled and honored to be appointed by President Biden to serve on the President's Committee on the National Medal of Science,” said Dr. Gonzalez, Co-Chair of Small Business for America’s Future and the CEO & President of both South Texas Allergy & Asthma Medical Professionals (STAAMP) and STAAMP Clinical Research in San Antonio, Texas. “It is through the recognition of our scientists that we are able to honor all of the advances that have been made in science, especially in light of the pandemic. I am thankful for this opportunity and look forward to the work ahead."

Dr. Gonzalez recently founded the nonprofit organization Con Corazon to address healthcare disparities that were highlighted in underserved communities during the Covid-19 pandemic. STAAMP and Con Corazón partnered to set up community-wide vaccine events and testing centers, which vaccinated 15,000 adults and children and tested 20,000 patients.

In addition to leading a thriving medical practice, Dr. Gonzalez works to decrease healthcare disparities and increase access to quality medical care through her volunteer efforts. She serves as a small business advocate in her role as co-chair for Small Business for America’s Future, chairs the San Antonio Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women, is Chairwoman of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is on the Board of Directors for Latino Victory Project. In 2019, she was selected as the Presidential Leadership Scholar.

The National Medal of Science is a Presidential Award recognizing individuals for their outstanding contributions to knowledge in the physical, biological, mathematical, engineering, social and behavioral sciences.
