Small Business for America’s Future Applauds confirmation of Yellen to Lead Treasury Department

Statement by Rhett Buttle, senior advisor to Small Business for America’s Future and former national business advisor at Biden for President

Washington, D.C., Jan. 25, 2021—In welcome news for small businesses, Janet Yellen was confirmed today by the Senate as Secretary of the Treasury. Yellen, the first woman to serve in the post, brings welcome experience and steady leadership to a position that will play a crucial role in helping small businesses through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Yellen has demonstrated that she understands that small business survival will be crucial to the strength of our overall economic recovery. Her confirmation comes at a key moment for Main Street entrepreneurs. Many of the 30 million small business owners in this country, who employ nearly half of all American workers, are desperate for help. A recent Small Business for America’s Future survey shows 19% of small business owners have already considered bankruptcy and most expect the economic pain of the pandemic will last well into 20201.

We are hopeful that Yellen and the other experienced economic leaders named by President Joe Biden can provide the leadership needed to help our economy and our small businesses recover.
