Small Business Group: Introduction of America COMPETES Act is an important step to creating legislation that will help small business manufacturing and strengthen the economy

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future Senior Advisor Rhett Buttle on the introduction of the America COMPETES Act of 2022 and its impact on America’s Main Street

Washington, D.C., Feb.1,  2022— We are glad to see the recent introduction of the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology, and Economic Strength Act of 2022 (America COMPETES Act) in the U.S. House of Representatives because it paves the way to negotiate legislation with the Senate that will boost production of American-made semiconductors and strengthen the country’s supply chain.

Proposals laid out by the House and Senate to address this issue highlight the kinds of investments needed to propel our small business economy and strengthen our entrepreneurial environment. Our most recent survey shows that small business owners have been impacted by supply chain issues and support policies that address them. Lawmakers must act in a bipartisan manner to ensure America’s Main Street can recover and rebuild from the challenges presented by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

We must continue investment into our small businesses by enacting policies that help our small business community, which creates two-thirds of all new jobs and employs half of all workers, succeed.
