Small Business Group Member Joins Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in NC to Discuss Inflation Reduction Act’s Economic & Climate Impacts

Member of Small Business for America’s Future North Carolina participated in a roundtable with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in North Carolina today about the Inflation Reduction Act’s impact on the economy

Morrisville, North Carolina, Sept. 27, 2022 – Small Business for America’s Future North Carolina (SBAF) members participated in a discussion with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen at Research Triangle Park today to talk about the impact the Inflation Reduction Act’s climate provisions will have on the economy.

The law includes aggressive legislative action to combat the climate crisis while also helping small businesses with some of the largest economic pressure they face including inflation, healthcare costs and the unfair tax advantage enjoyed by large corporations.  Energy savings and infrastructure investment will help create jobs, provide contracting opportunities for small businesses and spur economic growth.

A recent SBAF survey found that 74% of small business owners support the Inflation Reduction Act overall.

“The Inflation Reduction Act helps small businesses by not just addressing climate change, but cuts sky high prescription drug costs and provides much needed tax relief,” said Small Business for America’s Future member Kade Kimber, owner of Oak City Gifts in Raleigh-Durham and President of Harmony: NC LGBT+ Allied Chamber of Commerce. “There is a lot in there for small business owners to like.”

The SBAF survey of small business owners found broad support for the Inflation Reduction Act and its provisions. Specifically:

  • 75% support the climate change provisions
  • 79% of small business owners support creating a minimum 15% tax rate for large corporations
  • 86% support allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices
  • 85% support capping out-of-pocket drug costs for seniors at $2,000

Secretary Yellen toured a leading renewable energy facility while meeting with local business and community leaders, and elected officials. She gave remarks outlining the economic impacts of the law . The trip is part of Yellen’s month-long tour to discuss President Biden’s economic agenda.
