Small Business Week Media Avail: Small business experts and owners across the country available to discuss top small business policy needs

During Small Business Week and a Small Business Washington DC Fly-in on May 15-17, Small Business for America’s Future leaders and small business members will highlight Main Street’s most pressing needs with the media and policymakers

Washington, D.C., May 2, 2022—During the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) National Small Business Week, which takes place May 2-5, Small Business for America’s Future (SBAF) co-chairs and small business owners across the country are available to discuss Main Street’s most press policy needs—from reining in healthcare costs, to tax reform, to policies that combat inflation and workforce problems like quality childcare. From May 15-17, members of SBAF’s Small Business Council will also join the organization’s co-chairs in Washington, D.C. to advocate for action on these priorities with federal policymakers.

SBAF surveys show that small business owners who continue to grapple with a tumultuous economy are eager for policy solutions that cut expenses that eat into their bottom line and help increase the labor pool. Top issues small business owners face and solutions they support include:

●      Soaring healthcare costs: 83% of small business owners said rising health insurance costs have an impact on their ability to grow and 85% support allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices with drug companies

●      An unfair tax code: The effective federal tax rate for small businesses is nearly 20%, while Amazon’s federal tax rate was just  6% this year—and many large corporations pay even less or nothing at all. Sixty-five percent of small business owners strongly support reforms ensuring corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes

●      Restraints on the workforce: 55% of small business owners surveyed believe that the lack of affordable, high-quality child care for employees has had a negative impact on their business such as constraining growth and impacting hiring decisions. Sixty-six percent believe the federal government has a role in supporting universal access to affordable, high-quality child care.

●      Access to Capital: 55% of small business owners say access to affordable and responsible capital is their top concern.

●      Corporate price gouging: 63% of small business owners SBAF surveyed think large corporations are taking advantage of inflation to raise their prices unnecessarily, and 97% of those respondents say that is harmful to small business

WHAT: As small businesses power a historic economic recovery, they continue to navigate a tumultuous economy. They need policy solutions that will strengthen their businesses. During Small Business Week and during a Small Business Washington DC Fly-in on May 15-17, Small Business for America’s Future leaders and small business members will highlight Main Street entrepreneurs’ most pressing needs with the media and policymakers

WHO: Small Business for America’s Future  co-chairs, and small business owners across the country. Co-chairs include:
