STATEMENT: Investments in TN transportation infrastructure and electric vehicle charging manufacturing a boon for small businesses

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future Co-Chair Anne Zimmerman on Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu's visit to Nashville to discuss investments in transportation infrastructure and electric vehicle charging manufacturing

March 29, 2023—It was heartening to see Senior Advisor and Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu visit Nashville today, emphasizing the Investing in America agenda's role in creating safer, smarter transportation and expanding electric vehicle charging manufacturing. These initiatives not only contribute to a sustainable future but also offer significant benefits to small businesses.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, making these projects possible, invests in modern, efficient transportation systems, which are crucial for small businesses to access resources, customers, and markets. By improving transportation infrastructure, businesses can streamline operations and reduce costs, bolstering their competitiveness and growth potential.

Additionally, this legislation will lead to a surge in federal projects benefiting small businesses. The U.S. Department of Transportation, for instance, is instructed to award over $37 billion in federal contracts to small disadvantaged business contractors.

Investing in transportation infrastructure reduces shipping delays for small businesses, facilitating the delivery of goods and services to consumers more quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, the expansion of electric vehicle charging manufacturing supports the domestic manufacturing sector, creating new opportunities for small businesses, jobs, and local economic growth. This is in line with the majority of small business owners who
believe that investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will benefit Main Street businesses.

Overall, these initiatives will help build a more sustainable, efficient, and interconnected future for everyone, including small businesses across the country.

Here’s what Tennessee small business owners are saying about Landrieu’s visit:

“I was happy to hear the Biden Administration talk about the impacts of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that will not only help improve fragile roads and bridges across the country but also works to mitigate the effects of climate change. Expanding electric vehicle charging manufacturing is a step in the right direction to fixing the climate crisis but also helps boost our economy”

Wendy Navarro, Owner of Navarro Creative Group, Nashville, TN

“I agree with the current administration’s efforts to invest in clean energy. We can address climate change and help our economy at the same time. The clean energy investment included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help so many small businesses who support the supply chain in Nashville. The law is also a testament to what can happen when lawmakers from opposite political spectrums unite to help the people they serve.”
