STATEMENT: Michigan small businesses benefiting from the CHIPS Act

Statement by Detroit’s Latricia Wilder, a Small Business for America’s Future Network member, owner of Love Yourself, LLC and a founding member of the Small Business Owner Advocacy Group on the president’s remarks about the CHIPS Act, which invests billions to incentivizing domestic manufacturing initiatives in the United States

Nov. 29, 2022— Small Business for America’s Future Network member Latricia Wilder, the Detroit-based owner of Love Yourself, LLC, a health and wellness company, and a founding member of the Small Business Owner Advocacy Group, which advocates for small businesses in Detroit and across Michigan, issued the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s visit to Bay City, MI today to discuss the impact of  the CHIPS Act.

“The CHIPS Act has lit a fire under domestic manufacturing here in Michigan and across the country by improving the supply chain and seeding the ground for growth in domestic semiconductor production. Many small firms contribute to the microchip supply chain, and growing manufacturing in the U.S. will propel our small business economy in an equitable and inclusive fashion and strengthen our entrepreneurial environment.

“After making deep sacrifices during the pandemic, small business owners are now juggling labor market constraints and rising costs for goods and services. The CHIPS Act is the kind of forward-thinking investment small business owners need from our leaders in this challenging economic environment. After all, when small businesses flourish, the nation prospers. We account for almost half of the country’s economic activity, two-thirds of new jobs, employ about half of all Americans, and drive economic growth and job creation.

“While many lawmakers would rather pursue grievances and obstruct progress than focus on bolstering the country’s economic health, the success of the CHIPS Act shows what strong leadership and the right legislative focus can accomplish.”
