Nevada Small Business Owners Discuss Concerns and Needs During Virtual Roundtable Discussion with Rep. Steven Horsford

Small Business for America’s Future held a virtual roundtable today with Rep. Horsford and Nevada small business owners to discuss the state of small business six months since the pandemic was declared a national emergency

Las Vegas, Sept. 18, 2020–During a virtual small business roundtable hosted by Small Business for America’s Future, Rep. Steven Horsford (NV-04) told Nevada small business owners that there must be further federal assistance for Main Street businesses and employees who continue to be negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic six months after it was declared a national emergency.

Small Business for America’s Future Co-Chair Shaundell Newsome, who owns SumNu Marketing in Las Vegas and serves as the Chair of the Las Vegas Urban Chamber of Commerce, said small business owners are rightfully concerned about whether there will be another round of federal aid.

A recent small business survey found that:

  • 75% of small  business owners say they are still struggling with reduced revenue
  • 39% of small businesses do not have enough revenue to stay open for even a week in the event of a revenue disruption
  • 42% have reduced payroll to help mitigate the financial impact of the pandemic

And small business owners don’t anticipate this will be over anytime soon. In a recent Small Business for America’s Future survey, 80% expect business to be disrupted for all of 2020 or longer.

“We cannot let small businesses bear the economic brunt of this pandemic alone. The situation is getting dire and it’s time for our leaders to act.” Newsome said. “Our economic recovery will require a strong small business sector. It was small businesses—not big corporations—that led the country out of the Great Recession. Small businesses created nearly two-thirds of new jobs following the recession. With a long-term recovery plan dedicated to helping small businesses, they can lead the way out of the COVID-19 recession, too.”
