Small Business Group Applauds the Extension of the Paycheck Protection Program

Statement by Renee Johnson, senior advisor to Small Business for America’s Future, on the extension of the Paycheck Protection Program for small businesses

Washington, D.C., March. 30, 2021— The two-month extension of the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program signed into law by President Biden today is good news for small businesses that continue to need help to recover from the economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After a year of struggle, many surviving Main Street small businesses still need financial relief to rebuild—and getting it hasn’t always been easy. With confusing applications and continuously evolving rules, the process of applying for a PPP loan has been challenging for many. There are plenty of entrepreneurs who will take advantage of the extension of the PPP program to May 31.

We are glad lawmakers approved this extension, because though there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel on the pandemic, it is crucial that small businesses, the nation’s primary job creators, continue to get assistance to recover. Doing so will ensure a strong economic recovery for our Main Street businesses and our economy as a whole.
