Small business group praises infrastructure investments set to bolster small businesses in Washington

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future Co-chair Shaundell Newsome on Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s visit to Washington

July 6, 2023– Investment in infrastructure is crucial for the growth of small business. It is a good hear from Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg about the federal dollars that will be spent in Washington that will help Main Street thrive.

Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, $4.4 billion will be used to not only improve our roads and bridges, but make our communities more resilient to climate change and provide access to clean water.

As a small business owner, I understand the critical importance of investing in modern and efficient transportation systems. These systems play a vital role in our ability to access essential resources, reach out to customers, and tap into new markets.

When we enhance our transportation infrastructure, we can streamline our day-to-day operations, leading to cost reductions. This, in turn, strengthens our competitiveness and creates a pathway for potential growth.

Improved transportation infrastructure also means fewer shipping delays for small businesses. This makes it easier for us to deliver goods and services to consumers in a quicker and more efficient manner. As a result, new opportunities for small businesses, jobs, and local economic growth will emerge. In addition, the work done to improve the infrastructure creates opportunities to provide goods and services to all the workers and companies involved.

The Infrastructure Law proves that lawmakers from different political parties can pass legislation that will benefit the people who they were elected to serve. We hope they will work together to produce more laws that will help Main street thrive.
