STATEMENT: Career-connected learning and workforce training programs boosts the state economy and bolster the small business

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future North Carolina Director Jim Duffett on President and First Lady’s visit to Rocky Mount and Fort Liberty, North Carolina

Rocky Mount, N.C., June 9, 2023 – Today, the President and First Lady’s visit to Rocky Mount and Fort Liberty was an invaluable opportunity to showcase how career-connected learning and workforce training programs are equipping students with the skills needed to land well-paying jobs.

We are glad to see President Biden emphasizing good jobs and the development of a skilled workforce for small businesses. Initiatives to improve economic mobility and racial equity by improving job quality must address the distinct needs of small businesses because this crucial business segment employs 52% of the nation’s 134 million workers and 65% of low-income workers

That’s why we are encouraged by fruitful discussions such as this to help shape the future of North Carolina’s workforce and economy. By fostering a relationship between education and industry, we can empower students to seize the opportunities emerging in the job market. This approach not only benefits our younger generation but also bolsters our small business community by providing a skilled and talented workforce that meets the demands of the economic resurgence.
