STATEMENT: Small business group encouraged by progress on lowering prescription drug costs

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future Co-chair Dr. Erika Gonzalez, CEO, President, & Co-Founder of South Texas Allergy and Asthma Medical Professionals (STAAMP) and STAAMP Clinical Research on White House roundtable discussion on Medicare’s ability to negotiate prescription drugs

March 4, 2024– “We are pleased by the Biden-Harris Administration’s initiatives to lower healthcare costs and increase transparency among prescription drug middlemen.

“Recent efforts prove the administration's unwavering commitment to making healthcare more affordable and accessible for all Americans. The Inflation Reduction Act has begun to show its impact by empowering Medicare, for the first time, with the ability to negotiate ten selected drugs. This historic move promises savings for millions of seniors on some of the most expensive prescription drugs.

“A recent Small Business for America’s Future survey found that 81% of small business owners support the Inflation Reduction Act’s measures to lower prescription drug prices, but there is demand to do more. This support from the small business community underscores the critical need for continued progress.

“The administration's dedication to lowering healthcare costs and their proactive approach to tackling the complexities of the prescription drug market gives me hope. Together, we can continue to make strides towards a healthier, more affordable healthcare system.”
