STATEMENT: Transportation Secretary’s visit to Texas highlight infrastructure improvements, which are a boon for small businesses

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future Co-Chair Erika Gonzalez on Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s visit highlighting infrastructure investments in a modern transportation system, which will benefit small businesses

March 30, 2023—I was happy to see Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg travel to Texas to visit airports and air traffic control facilities that are receiving critical safety and infrastructure improvements funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. As a small business owner, I understand the importance of investing in modern, efficient transportation systems that help us access resources, customers, and markets.

By improving transportation infrastructure, we can streamline operations and reduce costs, which in turn strengthens our competitiveness and growth potential. It's great to see that this legislation will lead to a surge in federal projects benefiting small businesses, with the U.S. Department of Transportation instructed to award over $37 billion in federal contracts to small disadvantaged business contractors.

Investing in transportation infrastructure reduces shipping delays for small businesses, making it easier to deliver goods and services to consumers more quickly and efficiently. This will create new opportunities for small businesses, jobs, and local economic growth.

I believe that investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will benefit Main Street businesses across the country and it's reassuring to see our leaders in Washington work together on a more sustainable, efficient, and interconnected future for everyone.

Here’s what Texas small business owners are saying about Buttigieg’s visit:

“Whether it is to transport goods or seek contracts, small businesses need reliable and safe transportation. That’s why I am happy to hear about the current administration’s investment in aviation safety in Texas. This proactive move will help keep everyone safe.”

“Small businesses that rely on transportation for their operations can greatly benefit from transportation safety improvements. These improvements not only lead to increased efficiency, but also reduced costs and access to new markets. The recent visit of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to Texas and the grants awarded to airports like Dallas demonstrate the Biden administration's dedication to enhancing transportation safety, providing a positive impact for small businesses across the country.”
